Sugilite Gemstone is a powerful healing stone and found in colors like pale lavender to magenta or purple. It is a newly discovered stone compared to the other gemstones and is named after the Japanese scientist Dr. K. Sugi who discovered it in the year 1944. Sugilite is also known under the trade names of ‘Royal Lavulite’, ‘Royal Azel’ and ‘Wesselite’. This stone has a hardness rating of 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale with a hexagonal crystal structure. This stone is used for gemstone jewelry and healing. This stone is a good stone to be worn by those born under theZodiac Signs of Taurus, Aquarius, Virgo, Sagittarius and Libra. The Planets associated with this stone are Mercury and Jupiter. This gemstone is associated with the Heart Chakra.

Sugilite is a bit costly as far as the price is concerned. Beware of dyed stones which are been passed off as sugilite with all fancy names like Flower Sugilite, Aftrican Sugilite, Russian Sugilite, Chinese Sugilite, Sugilite Jasper and so on. This stone is sometimes referred to as ‘Purple Turquoise’ if the stone has designs like that of turquoise. However, make sure that the stone is a real one and not dyed or reconstructed turquoise. Though Sugilite is a soft gem compared to many other jewelry gemstones, it is quite durable. However, do not clean this stone with steam or ultrasonic jewelry cleaners. It can be cleaned by soaking it in lukewarm soapy water for 5-10 minutes and then cleaning it thoroughly using plain water.
