Are you spending your Birthday alone?

Are you alone on your birthday? I have some tips for you to make the day special. If you want something very much, buy it on your birthday as a present for yourself. Sometimes it so happens that we get so much busy in our life that we do not time for ourselves. Your birthday gives you the perfect excuse and opportunity to spend some time pampering yourself.  Spend your day doing things which you like most even if that means eating unhealthy or watching a movie alone. You can also talk over phone to people who mean to you and ask them how they are. So now what is your excuse to celebrate your birthday by your own and enjoy to the fullest?  Are you going to sulk that you are getting a year older or count your blessings- the choice is yours. Many, many Happy Returns of the Day!

How to spend a Birthday alone?

I think I should have titled the hub how am I going to spend my Birthday alone. It is my Birthday on May 15 and I plan to spend the day alone. Not many people like to be alone on their birthday. But I am one of those few people who like some peace and time alone at least on my special day. Parties and Discos are something I dislike so they are never part of my Birthday celebration plans. This does not mean that I am a loner and would spend my day lonely and depressed. I have my own ways to make my day special and memorable. So how am I going to spend my Birthday?

I would love myself:

Top on my list is to please myself. My Birthday is the day I would look at the mirror and say to myself ‘Happy Birthday Baby’. 40 years have passed since I am born and I still love looking at myself. I may not have a Miss World Crown but I do not look anything lesser than a Miss World to me when I look into the mirror. I like it when people say things like I do not look my age or I have not changed much. (I am even more pleased when people my age or my school or college mates look more than their age. In fact I could not recognize some of my old friends and relatives because they have changed a lot from what they used to look like before and it goes without saying that I was double pleased. Do I sound like a bad girl? May be I am. But I have always valued people for their qualities and not their looks.)

I am in love with myself so I like to pamper myself a lot. I like to have new clothes, new accessories, personalized jewelry, new perfume, new sandals and even a new intimate wear for night. In addition to the new things buying a gift for me and visiting the spa is another way I please myself. Birthday is a day I eat anything what my heart desires be it chocolate, cake, caramel popcorn, ice cream or KFC Chicken.

My Birthday is a day I want to take a break from work/studies, computer and mobile and enjoy some peace and time with myself.

I would love others: I have 2 close friends whom I share my Birthday with. Talking to them first thing in the morning has become a practice with me over the past few years though there is no fixed rule as to who would call first. Whoever wakes up first calls the other. Another habit which I have is meeting one of my close friends for lunch. For the past 4 years we have been friends we meet each other for lunch on our birthdays along with some girlie talk and presents. As a rule it is always the birthday girl who gets treated for lunch and not the other way round. We both like catching up with each other and also think that the birthday is a day to make the person having the birthday special and not make the person spend. I dislike people who ask me ‘where is the party’, ‘where are you going to treat us’ etc because I genuinely feel that I should be the one who should get a party or treat on my Birthday apart from greetings, gestures and gifts. So in order to avoid such stuff, I find it safe to not be available than spoil my day. Anyway, I hate parties and crowds.

I take time to visit and spend time in an NGO and feed at least a hungry person. It makes me realize how lucky and privileged I am and I count my blessings. I open the gifts I received (even if they have arrived by courier earlier) only on the Birthday. Though I dislike when I am given cut flowers (I think flowers are better on plant and not to be removed from plants) I never say so, though I am used to speak my mind, on my Birthday. Finally, how can I forget my man? As always he makes me feel special in his own numerous ways. We go out in the evening for a movie and dinner, spend some time talking or star gazing and finally end up between the sheets. What better way can be there to end a special day?

I would Count my Blessings and Thank God

Apart from saying a silent prayer of thanks to God as soon as I wake up and doing puja after bath I also visit a temple later on my Birthday. How can I not thank the almighty for the gifts he has given me? He has given me a nice family, wonderful friends, talents and comforts to name a few apart from teaching me lessons of life through experiences.
