Influence of Planet Mars in Horoscope

Mars, the 4th Planet from the Sun in the Solar System, is named after Mars who is the Roman God of War. Mars orbits the sun in 687 days, spending about 57.25 days in each sign of the zodiac. Because of its reddish appearance it is also referred to as the ‘Red Planet' or Mangal. It is the ruling Planet for Aries. Astrologically, Planet Mars is associated with qualities like confidence and self assertion, aggression, sexuality, energy, strength, ambition and impulsiveness. Mars plays a very vital role in our Horoscopes.

The influence of Mars on the positive side gives us energy, strong will, independence and self confidence. A negative influence can mean Marital discord, infertility, menstrual problems in women, accidents, blood related diseases, violent behavior, litigation, loss of property etc to name a few. It also indicates premature death; as with loss of partner, when Mars is afflicted by "Kujadosha" or “Bhauma Dosha”. According to Sage Parashara who is the father of Vedic astrology if Mars occupies the 1^st, 4^th, 7^th, 8^th or 12^th house of a natal chart of a man, then his wife does not live.However, this affliction gets canceled if the spouse is also a Manglik. So a person having the "Manglik Yog" in his or her horoscope can only get married with a person having the same Dosh or in other words a Manglik should only marry a Manglik. The affliction of Mars in 1^st, 4^th, 7^th, 8^thor 12^thhouses of a natal chart makes the horoscope to be known as a Manglik horoscope. In other words, when the planet Mars is located in these houses of the horoscope, it casts malefic influences on various life aspects of that person, especially marriage. Manglik effect normally remains until the age of 28 years and after that the effect of Mars is significantly reduced. Many astrologers therefore advice Marriage of a Manglik after 28 years.

Mars is known to be a wrecker of marriages. However, the effect of Mars in Horoscope also depends on other factors like the strength of the 7th House Lord (the ruler of marriage), occupation of good or bad planets in the 7th house or their benefic or malefic aspects, the strength of the planet giving longevity to the spouse amongst other things. This affliction of "Kujadosha" is reduced when Mars in 1st House is in Aries or 4th House is in Scorpio or 7th House is in Capricorn or Pisces or 8th House is in Cancer or 12th House is in Sagittarius. In Vedic Astrology, the positions of the Sun and Saturn in a horoscope along with Mars have to be considered to determine if the horoscope is Manglik in nature.

Some ways to reduce the ill effects of Mars and cure the affliction of the Planet or increase its good effects are given below.

• Donation of a piece of Red cloth on any Tuesday is an ideal proposition.
• Wearing of coral gem stone ring made of Gold or Copper on the Index or Ring finger on any Tuesday and continuing to wear it thereafter is likely to appease Mars.
• Wearing Gold or Copper ring is also recommended to bring effective beneficial results.
• Fasting on Tuesday is said to be very effective effort to get the grace of Mangal.

• Reciting ‘Hanuman Chalisa' or offering sindoor to Lord Hanuman is said to be effective remedy for the affliction of Mars in Horoscope Chart.
