Falling in Love at first Glance

I have often heard people saying that there is nothing as love at first sight. I also have many friends who claim to have fallen in love at first sight. Do love at first sight exist? My own personal experience is that love at first sight can happen. It did happen to me!

What is love at first sight? Love at first sight can be described as the romantic attraction felt for a stranger at the first glance. Most of us have a subconscious mental image of potential partner. One may fall in love at first sight when they see a person with the traits they have set up mentally for their potential partner. Astrologically, Venus-Uranus (or Mars) connection is responsible for the thunderbolt of love at first sight.

My own Story of Love at first Sight

I met him for the first time at a Party. It was a party thrown by a client of mine. When I entered the somewhat crowded Party Hall, I immediately spotted him at the farthest corner of the room with a glass of wine in hand standing alone. I felt as if my world stopped for an instant. I could not take my eyes of him. I felt an instant connection. Suddenly he looked at me back. When eyes met, I felt as if an electric current passed through me. My knees turned soft as jelly. My heart started beating faster. My breathing got faster. He smiled, and I felt a sudden rush of warmness. I looked down suddenly feeling shy (With several years in Sales and Marketing, I am not someone who is a shy type). By then my client spotted me and dragged me to introduce to some people at the party. I hated my client for interrupting my private moment. I could feel his eyes on me as I walked from there with my client. I turned back and looked at him. He closed his eyes for a second as if reassuring me that he is not going to vanish. That was the first time I ever felt anything like what I experienced. I felt as if I have known him for ages. My own behavior and response to him confused me. He was nothing like any of my normal friends. He also looked much younger to me in age. I tried to concentrate on what my client was saying but failed miserably. I could not even remember the name of a person introduced to me a few minutes ago. Feeling helpless, I closed my eyes in an effort to distract my wandering mind and his image appeared in front of my eyes instead. Wherever I went, I felt his eyes on me. I turned and looked at him again. He still had his eyes on me and was chatting with 2 guys. Suddenly I saw a pretty girl hugging him. I felt a surge of jealousy. How can I feel this much attracted to someone I am seeing the first time? I felt as if I have gone crazy. How can the cupid play his magic on me like that?

I tried to control my emotions and climbed upstairs so that I could rest for a while as I was getting a headache because of all the noise in the hall. I sat for a while in the couch at the study and then got up and started looking at the books displayed on the shelf. I suddenly felt his presence behind me and my heart started pounding faster. Without turning, I knew that it could not be anyone else other than him. Then he spoke, ‘So, you are hiding?’ He had a beautiful voice. I turned to face him, and replied, ‘No! The loud music was giving me a headache. I came up to rest for a while’. He asked again, ‘You do not like Parties and Crowd, right?’ I smiled. We then chatted like old friends who were catching up, and I forgot to ask his name for almost 30 minutes. He also did not ask my name as he already knew it. My host was his cousin. We went down, and he stayed my side. He filled my plate with food and suggested that I should taste this and that. After we had eaten, my client came near me again. I told her that I got to leave. She surprised me by ordering him to drop me as it is quite late. I tried to say an excuse, but nodded my head when he said, ‘I insist’. We came down to the parking lot. He asked, ‘Do you mind if I drop on my bike? If not, I can go and get my Car in 10 minutes. My house is only 5 minutes distance from here’. I surprised myself and replied, ‘No, that is alright!’ and climbed behind him on the bike. Traveling on a bike with a stranger at night is not something I would usually do, then it felt the right thing to do. My place was around 40 minutes drive from there. Midway he stopped the bike in front of a Coffee Shop and asked, ‘Coffee?’ I nodded and we walked into the shop. We occupied the corner seats. He did not ask me what I wanted (he seemed to know) and went to the counter and ordered Cappuccino’s and walnut cake. As I was sipping the coffee, he leaned forward and tucked the stray hair which fell on my face behind my ears, his hands lingering shortly at the base of my ears. His touch sent shivers down my body. If it had been anyone else, I would have slapped that person. I just looked at him as if mesmerized, and he smiled. He said, ‘Your eyes are beautiful and expressive. Know that?’ I smiled shyly. It surprised me that I was acting like a love struck teenager. He was much younger to me in age, and what I felt for him was not exactly brotherly. He did not seem to mind my age. He dropped me in front of my home. I thanked him and bid goodnight. I turned to walk away, and he suddenly caught my hand. I looked at him shocked. He said, ‘I do not want you to go’. I looked at him wide eyed. He then said, ‘I think I am in love with you’. I looked at him open mouthed for a minute and then said, ‘No, we cannot… It is wrong!’ He once again shocked me by pulling me into a tight embrace as if he would never let me go. Then he slowly released me and cupped my face looking deep into my eyes. He asked, ‘How can what feels so right be wrong? I know that it is too fast. Let us give each other some time. Please!’ I nodded. He once again pulled me into an embrace, and then reluctantly let me go.

As I walked to my home, I felt light weighted. My keys fall from my hand twice before I opened my flat door with shivering hands. I pinched myself to make sure that he was not my dream. A few hours have changed my life. What followed after that day was a real fairytale romance. We literally spend all spare times together. All I could think of day or night was only him. He was becoming my world. I was miserable when I could not see him and happy when he was with me. I was in a state of euphoria where I started ignoring work and friends. How to know that you have fallen in love at first sight?

The feeling can be described as somewhat crazy. One may feel an electrified sensation (like a shiver down the spine), heart beating fast, breathing getting faster, soft feelings on the knee, overwhelming desire or feeling of attraction for that person, emotional connection or immediate bond with the other person and so on. It is said that these signs occur due to liberation of adrenalin in the blood and a lowering of blood pressure in your brain.

What do you think? Do you believe in love at first glance? Have any of you fallen in love at the first sight?
