Procedure of Wearing Rudraksha Beads
Rudraksha Beads are the most auspicious for wearing. These beads have numerous health benefits and can be used as astrological remedy for planets. They are also widely used for japa and meditation.
When to start wearing a Rudraksha bead mala? Hindu Festivals like Shivarathri, Deepavali, Ganesha Chaturthi and Navarathri are some of the auspicious days on which one can start wearing Rudraksha Beads Mala or pendants for the first time. If that is not possible, wear the bead for the first time on a Monday morning or on the days representing the ruling deities of the beads. It is best to visit a Shiva Temple in the morning and get the beads sanctified by a priest and wear it immediately after the worship at the temple itself. Many reputed sellers do the rituals of purification and charging of the beads with mantras before it is send to the buyer. However, They do it in bulk and not individually. Though many vendors may claim that they have done the rituals related to the bead, there is no harm in doing the rituals by yourself again.
How to wear a rudraksha rosary? Wear the beads on any Monday morning after bath and prayer seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva with the rituals of offering gangajal, panchamrit, flowers, incense, ghee lamp etc with a pure heart and utmost devotion. If that is not possible, just wear the rudraksha beads with utmost devotion, faith and acceptance to Lord Shiva.
Mantra for Rudraksha
The Rudraksha beads can also be kept in the Puja altar and worship daily instead of wearing or carried in a pouch. If you prefer to wear the beads then you should not wear the beads
- while going to bed or sleeping
- indulging in sexual activities
- going to cremation ground or attending funerals
- visiting newborn babies
- during menstrual bleeding
- while drinking or smoking or taking non vegetarian food
Everyday in the morning after bath wear the rudraksha beads after chanting the appropriate beeja mantra of the beads 108 times. When chanting the mantras hold the rosary on the right hand. The beej mantras of different beads are given below or simply chant ‘Om Namashivaya’ instead.
- 1, 4, 5, 10, and 13: Om Hreem Namah
- 2 and 14: Om Namah
- 3: Om Kleem Namah
- 7 and 8: Om Hum Namah
- 6, 9, and 11: Om Hreem Hum Namah
- 12: Om Krom Srom Rom Namah
The rudraksha mala should be washed occasionally with warm soapy water and allowed to dry naturally. Also oil the beads with sandlewood oil so that the beads do not break or crack.
