Wearing Gemstone Jewelry the right way

By

Getting the maximum benefits of Gemstones

Gemstone jewelry is normally worn by individuals as a fancy jewelry or as an astrological remedy for planetary influences. When using as a remedy prescribed based on astrology the gemstone jewelry is normally worn continuously without removing it to receive the benefits of gems. Gems are best suited for those who want a fast effect and do not want to spend time on prayers and rituals. It is also a better option for those who do not believe in Rudraksha Beadsand cannot follow the several restrictions to be followed by the wearer.

To get maximum effects of the gem certain things should be kept in consideration like

  • the time and day of wearing
  • weight in carets
  • quality of the gem
  • gem setting
  • the metal used
  • the finger worn
  • rituals of energizing and purification of the stone

Also as I have mentioned in a previous article it is advisable not to wear Contradictory Gemstones together unless advised by an expert astrologer. The best way of wearing astrological gems is to use it set either in a ring or as a pendant in an open setting on the back so that the gem touches the skin and in a manner that the light falling on the gem should pass through the stone into the body of the wearer. Pendants are best worn over the heart or throat chakra. The best time to wear gemstone jewelry for astrological purpose is in the morning during the bright half of the lunar month normally referred by astrologers as ‘shukla paksha’.

Normally rings are worn on any of the 4 fingers excluding thumb. Each finger is representation of a specific planet. The 4 fingers index, middle, ring and small finger are controlled by Jupiter, Saturn, Sun and Mercury respectively. However, some wear gems of Mars and its friendly Planet gem stones on the thumb as Mars is the ruler of the thumb. Gems which represents those planets are worn in the finger denoting that Planet only. If the planet that rules that gemstone is not related to a particular finger, then the gemstone can be worn on a finger ruled by a friend of that planet. The gem for one planet can also be worn with the gem of another planet if the two planets are friendly. For instance the gems of malefic planets Rahu and Ketu represented by Hessonite and Cat’s Eye should be worn on the middle finger, as these planets that rule these two gemstones, Ketu and Rahu, are Saturn’s friends. The fingers are also related to certain parts of the body. Index finger relates to the stomach or respiratory system. The middle finger relates to the brain, mind, intestines and liver. The ring finger relates to the stomach, blood circulation, kidneys and respiratory system. Little finger represents the legs, feet and the genitals. Other than that like Planets, the fingers in a hand are also representation of the five elements. The thumb represents fire, the index finger represents space, the middle finger represents air, the ring finger represents water and the small finger is representation of earth.

Gemstone Metals, Time and Day of Wearing

The metal used for making the ring also plays a very effective role in the effectiveness of the gem. Gold is the preferable metal for yellow sapphire, red coral and ruby. Diamond, Blue Sapphire, Cat’s eye, hessonite and emerald should be set in silver or white gold for best results. Pearl should always be set in silver for maximum benefits. Cat’s Eye and Gomedh can also be set on Ashtadhatu which comprises of eight metals as well. However if one cannot afford to use gold then silver is the next best option for them. The auspicious time to wear the gem is during the hora of the planet representing the gem on the day representing the Planet. The Purification and energizing process should be done before wearing the gem. The days of the Planet are Sun on Sunday, Moon on Monday, Mars on Tuesday and Mercury on Wednesday, Jupiter on Thursday, Venus on Friday, Saturn on Saturday.

Regarding which hand to wear the ring there are several opinions. Some say that it is right hand for men and the left for women where as some say it should be right hand for the right handed and left for the left handed. Further it is said that all gems representing Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu should be worn on the left hand and stones representing the Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus on the right. To know more about all precious and semiprecious stones visit my Blog The Power of Gemstones.

@eskay: Yes, It is necessary for the stone to touch the skin.

@melwin thomas : I am not offering free horoscope or gemstone consultations. I suggest you get a good Astrologer and get your horoscope done and wear the gemstones accordingly.

Hi Anamika, I was going through your comments. I born on the 13th of dec 1979, time morning around 7.30. what wud be my ideal birht stone to wear. Which finger? currently i'm going through a bad patch in life. In fact one of the worst. so i've heard heard the right stone in the right place will take away some negative influence. looking forward to your response. Thank you

@rishabh It will definitely make a difference if you wear it on the small finger of your hand as it is the finger which represents the planet mercury. Also light would fall more freely on the hand than the chest. If you cannot wear in hand then the next option would be to wear as a pendant at the throat area.

Hi.. If i want to wear a collection of gemstones.. Can i make a braclet and wear?

It is necessary to wear a gemstone or you can carry the same in your pocket/purse in a pouch?

Eskay 6 months ago

Hi Anamika, all the red coral stones available in the shops have a curved top but a flat bottom. The result is when they are set in a ring, the bottom of the coral is not able to touch the skin. Is it absolutely necessary the stone must touch the skin for any effect?

Anamika S 6 months ago

@Gunjan Wear it within the first hour after sunrise.

no offence but..... hogwash! Gemstones are ROCKS nothing more. Sure they are pretty and work well as adornment. But there is NOTHING "magic" about them. No more than sandstone, limestone, or lava rocks. Rocks be rocks honey. Just rocks.

Dear Anamika,

My birth star is bharani, I was told by one astrologer to wear RUBY 3 or 5 carats in ring finger and another ring with diamond(5cents)+emerald(half carat)+blue supphire(half carat) in middle finger.

Can you tell me the effects after wearing these stones and in which metal I have to wear?

Anamika S 2 years ago

Yes, Pearl is normally worn in silver. If your Astrologer has suggested wearing then he must have a valid reason for that. Go ahead.

Puvi 2 years ago

Thanks for all the info anamika. I am suggested by a astrologer to wear a pearl in gold, though he said pearl is often worn in silver in my case its advisable to wear it in gold. I am a little skeptical about it. Does wearing pearl in gold cause any negetive effects. Please help me.

This is the first time I have heard of this type of jewelry, thanks for all you shared. I have heard of using magnetic jewelry to help heal things, is this something similar?

I have a doubt whether to wear the navaratna ring with the diamond facing our body when we are in a standing position with our hands by the side of our body or should the blue saphire face the body in this position ? my teacher said that diamond should face our body in this position ? if u have any book or a source please refer to me by messaging in this blog?

i always appreciate original works, like the one by Anamika, where she tries to make everyone understand in a simple and lucid writing. she is exceptionally brilliant and blessed with unmatched intellegence, which reflects in her blogs. these are very useful to public at large, which was never into public domain. i think she is the first lady, who has taken responsibility to expose this untouched teritorry in a very convincing manner.

Thanks for the visit. I already have written 39 articles on gemstones. Once I cover the rest of the individual gemstones (say another 30 articles to go) I would start writing on gemtherapy in detail.

Navaratna gemstones can be worn by anybody. I so far have not heard of it harming anyone. Read about it here http://hubpages.com/hub/Benefits-Navagraha-Navarat

Thank you for the excellent HUB. I am recollecting an incident. My colleague's father-in-law purchased a ring with 'Navarathna gem stones' as per some body's advice or on his own. An astrologer cum consultant has adviced him not to wear the ring. Ultimately the ring was dropped in Tirumala - Tirupati Balaji Hundi. How to avoid such situations? People are telling some positive and negative effects. To some extend your article has removed some myths. You may write few more articles / HUBs on myths. Will you do?
