Rutilated Quartz Gemstone

Rutilated Quartz is a transparent gemstone belonging to the Quartz family which has inclusions of needle like crystals of rutile which is mainly made up of Titanium dioxide. The word ‘rutile’ actually comes from the Latin word ‘rutilus’ which means the color red. However, in this stone the rutiles can come in colors other than red also like the brassy yellow, silvery, green or black. No two stones will be identical which adds to the charm of this gemstone. This stone is also known as Venus hair Stone, Fleches d’amour, Sagenite and Cupid’s darts. Normally the price and value of Gemstones is based on their clarity and lack of inclusions, but this stone is an exception to the general rule. This stone has a hardness of 6 on the Mohs scale. This stone is especially beneficial for those born under the Zodiac Signs of Taurus and Gemini. Though Rutilated Quartz Stone is associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra, it can be used to energize the Kundalini energy. It cleanses and energizes the aura drawing off negative energy and releasing energy blockages thereby balancing all the chakras. This is said to be a good stone to be used by those affected by black magic and negative energies.

Rutilated quartz is often confused with Tourmaline Quartz Crystals which also has needle like inclusions inside the Quartz crystal. However, an expert should be able to identify between them based on the color of the inclusions. This stone can be found in Brazil, Srilanka, India, Germany, South Africa, Madagascar, Australia, Norway, Switzerland, Pakistan and the United States.

However doing a fine polish on the surface of the stone is a real pain because of the rutiles on the surface of the cut stone. Like most other Gemstone jewelry, this Stone also should be protected from sharp blows and exposure to chemicals as it can get chipped or lose its luster.

When worn as jewelry, this gem is normally set in pendants and rings.
