It is an accepted fact that Rudraksha beads can remedy the negative planetary influences and also have medicinal properties to cure several diseases. With this increasing popularity of rudraksha many people have started selling fake beads made of wood and plastic which looks like the real one. Even some Marketing Companies are selling such rudrakshas through publicity activity through TV by reputed models and actors and cheating the public. How to find if a rudraksha bead is real or fake?

The best way to identify an original from a fake is to give it in the hands of a scanner of energy who can feel the vibration if it a genuine Rudraksha while a duplicate Rudraksha bead does not generate any sensation. Normally it is noticed that 5 faced beads are not duplicated as it is available in plenty and the price is cheap. Rather than going for the numerous tests to find if a bead is genuine or fake after buying the rudrakh, it is always better to procure the Rudraksha bead from a reliable and reputable source to get genuine and authentic rudraksha beads.

Don't be duped by vendors who try to sell rudraksha beads by passing them on as collectors item with clear impressions of trisul, shivlinga or shiva itself as this is carved on a five mukhi rudraksha mainly or made of plastic. Also never buy a rudraksha if it is broken from any end. Tests like the one which sinks in water is original and the one which floats in water is duplicate also does not hold right in the case of Rudraksha beads. Even the ones made of wood can sink in water if they are impregnated with lead or some heavy ingredients.However by using a magnifying glass one may check if there is any glued joints or carved lines in the bead and if found it's a fake. Boiling the bead in water for some time or putting the bead in liquid Nitrous Oxide can reveal if a bead is glued to create it which is a practice of many vendors.

Temperature test and milk tests are 2 other popular methods used to check if a rudraksha is genuine. Put the rudraksha in a glass of water with just enough water to cover it. Check the temperature. Check the temperature again after some time and there would be a 1 to 2 degree centigrade rise in the temperature as the genuine beads are hot in nature. But this test is not a 100% foolproof test as external factors can result in the change of temperature. Another test can be done by putting the beads in fresh raw milk for 2 days and checking if the milk has spoiled after 2 days. However, the above given tests cannot be done if you have not purchased the bead.

Many people are known to do the magnetic field test where the bead is kept vertically in between 2 copper coins and see if the rudrakh rotates clockwise as an original rudraksha bead has a magnetic field around it. But this test needs some skills. So, the best option for the buyer to procure genuine rudraksha beads is to buy it from a known or reputable seller. You may also buy from reputed Online Sellers of Shopping Sites like Amazon who are there for a year or more as they would normally not dare to get banned by selling fake products to customers.
