Pearls have always been a favorite with the royal families and celebrities. Pearls are considered as a symbol of beauty and elegance . Pearl, also referred to as the Queen of Gems or Tears of the Sea, is an emblem of beauty, purity and innocence. It is said that no two pearls are alike. This uniqueness and beauty of Pearls has made it a prized possession for ages. Pearls are obtained from the Sea. Basically, there are two types of Pearls, Sea Pearls and Fresh water Pearls. It is available in different shapes and colors which makes it ideal for making jewelery.

Coming to Pearl lovers history, there are several celebrities who had a passion for this gem. Queen Elizabeth 1 of England is known for her obsession for Pearls. Jacqueline Kennedy's Margarita Pearls is a famous and rare piece of Jewelry. Princess Diana, who is famous for her love for Diamonds, also loved Pearl. Her Tiara is one of the most famous jewelry she possessed. The Hollywood royalty Elizabeth Taylor owns one of the most spectacular pieces of Pearl Jewelry named 'La Perigrina'. Queen Elizabeth II loved Pearls too and wore it on her wedding day.

It was a common belief that a gift of white pearls ensured the happiness of married couples. White pearls jewelry is the favorite of women in the U.S and Europe. It often symbolizes a happy marriage and in many countries and is given as a wedding gift to the Bride. I do not know how and when the tradition of gifting Freshwater Pearl is on the occasion of the 1st year of marriage started. But I remember reading it some where that there is such a tradition. This is also the anniversary gemstone for the 12th and 30th year of marriage. This Jewelry is also gifted to Bridesmaids as a token of appreciation and love. Pearls transmit the color orange which is used to treat the diseases relating to blood and bodily secretions that are caused by inflammation. Wearing Pearls may also help improve tuberculosis, heart disease, ulcers, fever, epilepsy, diabetes, insomnia, eye problems and uterine problems. Women can wear these for menstrual problems. Pearls are also known for its healing powers. It also helps to maintain good health and eliminate emotional imbalances. They help one to master the heart chakra, aid stomach, spleen, intestinal tract and ulcer problems.

Pearl Jewellery is also worn as an astrological remedy and birth stone. Pearls set in silver, preferably ring, is recommended to be worn if the moon is the lord of an auspicious house or is afflicted in the birth chart. Anamika - I'm so glad I ran across your hub. I loved it! Pearls are my all time favorite gems, and an absolute wardrobe staple. I don't think I ever saw my grandmother when she wasn't wearing a string of pearls. They are timeless and classic. I enjoyed the bit of history and information - thanks for sharing!

I do not think the Pearl Jewelry would ever be out of fashion. I have a couple of white pearl jewelry ( most of which i bought personally and 1 set i received for being a Bridesmaid for my friend Rachel)and absolutely love it.
