How to create a good Online Dating Profile

Do not forget that your online dating profile is who you are in the virtual world of online dating, so you should be very careful about what you put there. I am listing below 6 common online dating profile mistakes. To make a good online dating profile, just avoid making these mistakes.

  1. Not having a Profile Photo: You would see many people on dating sites and social networking sites not posting a profile photo because either they are fake or they want to be anonymous. It is said that majority of men on Online Dating Sites are married and looking for flings. If you are seeing a profile without a photo or profile with pictures of nature, celebrities etc as profile picture it is definitely a red flag. Otherwise too, majority of people do not get in touch with or respond to someone without a profile picture. If you are looking for a potential partner online, make sure you post a good profile picture. Also make sure that you don’t post an outdated picture or an obscene one.
  2. Missing Profile Information: We tend to see many people giving either too less or too much information about them on their profile. Both of this should be avoided. Remember a profile is like an Advertisement through with you are branding yourself. If the advertisement is not attracting enough or boring would you buy a product? Think of it! If less information cannot create a good first impression, saying too much can be boring. Majority of people lack the patience to read a lengthy online profile. Avoid making bland and unimaginative profiles that contain no useful information. However, do not Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve when writing your online profile because you are at the risk scaring a lot of good suitors away. You would be missing out of potential dating partners if you write too less or too much on your profile. Make a point to make a good impression with your profile. Also make sure that there are no spelling and grammatical mistakes. Spell checkers are available on the Sites, so feel free to use them. Also never type all text in Capital letters as it is considered disrespectful. Also avoid negative statements and demands out of your profile as it can chase people away from you. When there are better profiles why would someone be interested in contacting you? The best way to get a good impression through your profile is by speaking positively about everything in your profile.
  3. Lying: If you are in a Dating Site to get a good partner for relationship or marriage, make sure that you are honest about everything. Do not project yourself as someone whom you are not just for the sake of getting a date. Many online daters admit of lying about their income. I agree that the temptation to lie to make yourself attractive in front of your potential mate is more as you are not seeing that person face to face but imagine the embarrassment when they find it eventually. If you ask me, ‘Honesty is the best policy’. Market yourself as what you are and how you are through your online dating profile.
  4. Be prepared: Make an Online Profile only if you are ready for online dating. Many people are too negative and use their defense mechanisms with even potential dates. Why waste your time and other people’s time if you are not ready to try? Statements like ‘I’m tired of the dating game’ and’ I’ve been hurt a lot’ etc does not make a good impression. Many people are skeptical about the online dating game but have made profiles on dating sites because of the influence of others which is bad. If you don’t believe in it and do not want to do it, just don’t do it.
  5. Talking About Sex: If you are looking for a potential love relationship then do not project yourself as a creep by talking about sex on your profile. Avoid sending creepy messages. Many guys and girls use suggestive type user names and pictures which should be avoided if you are not looking for flings.
  6. No Call of Action: Once you have made a potential date interested in your Profile, it is important to persuade that person to contact you my using appropriate call of action words.

Avoiding the above mistakes on your online dating profile help you get better responses and also increase your chance of getting responses. In short, online dating is not too hard. If you have the right attitude and realistic expectations your search for a potential mate can be successful. Many people around the World are finding love online and the next could be you.

very good informative hub. I was on the online dating scene for a while and now have met someone. People should definitely watch out for Myspace as that is a scamming site and men want only your money. They're probably from the third world scamming twenty four seven

Thanks for this informative Hub. I am happily marriage, but my sister is recently widowed. I have been suggesting that she consider on-line dating. (Without really knowing the scoop.) I will send her your Hub. Voted up and useful.
