Fluorite Gemstone Meaning

Fluorite Gemstone, also referred to as Fluorspar or Genius Stone, is a mineral composed of Calcium Fluoride. The name Fluorite is said to have come from the Latin word 'fleure', the meaning of which is ‘to flow’. It comes in a wide range of colors including yellow, white, blue, green, pink, black, brown, orange, purple or colorless. It is an interesting and beautiful stone and most often has different bands of color in the same stone. A single crystal can be multicolored. Fluorite is associated with fluoride which is used to strengthen the teeth and prevent tooth decay. It is also used as a source of fluorine for hydrofluoric acid and fluorinated water. Because of its transparency to ultraviolet light, Fluorite is also used in some high-performance telescopes and camera lens elements. It is also used for making ornamental carvings and decorative objects. Fluorite is a soft stone with a low hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale and therefore not very suitable as a gemstone for jewelry. It is more of a collector's gem because of its perfect cleavage in four directions. However, quite recently a deposit of durable fluorite was discovered in Utah known by names like Picasso Stone, Bertandite or Opalized Fluorite which is suitable for jewelry.

Fluorite is the Birthstone of those born in the Month of February. It is also said to be a good stone for those born in the zodiac signs of Capricorn and Pisces. Deposits of Fluorite is found in most places including Canada, Russia, USA, South Africa, Australia, Brazil, Italy, Thailand, France, Mexico, China, Norway, Pakistan, England and Germany.

Healing and Metaphysical Properties of Fluorite stone

Fluorite is said to cleanse and stabilize the aura and is believed to be very effective against computer and electromagnetic emanations. Fluorite is a balancing and healing stone and is said to be helpful to provide relief from pain, stress, depression and anxiety. This stone is associated with the Third Eye or the Brow Chakra and thereby increases concentration, intuition, self-confidence and aids in decision making. This is an excellent stone for relationships and friendships. Fluorite is also said to absorb and neutralize negative vibrations. This stone also can make one more receptive to the vibrations of the other stones. It can be used as a meditation stone to help energize the body and raise the power of concentration. Fluorite boosts the immune system and is said to be helpful in dealing with infections, ulcers, arthritis and spinal injuries.

Fluorite, being a fragile stone, needs special care. Clean fluorite stones using lukewarm water, mild soap and a cloth or soft brush to remove any collected dust or grease. Avoid cleaning it on ultrasonic or steam cleaners. Avoid exposure to chemicals and excessive heat. Store them in a fabric-lined box separately when not in use to avoid scratching and chipping.
