Dusky skinned Indian Actresses who have made a mark in Bollywood

I recently wrote a Post on my Blog regarding the obsession for fair skin among Indian girls. Even Television and other media advertisements promote the Fair is beautiful-dark is ugly concept by exploiting the mentality of Indian society that one has to be fair skinned to be beautiful. Dark skin girls often face problems when it comes to marriage or jobs apart from the second grade treatment they often get from the society and their own homes. Dark skinned Indian girls thereby are under tremendous pressure to succumb to the fair and beautiful complex which may often lead to depression, inferiority complex, low esteem and mental disorders. But thankfully, not having a fair skin has not prevented many Indian girls from making a mark in the Modeling and Film World.

There are several earthy-complexioned or dusky skinned actresses who look divinely sexy and beautiful and also take pride of their complexion like Bipasha Basu, Kajol, Priyanka Chopra, Sameera Reddy, Lara Dutta, Diana Hayden, Raima Sen, Celina Jaitley, Konkona Sen, Tanushree Dutta, Koena Mitra, Freida Pinto, Nandita Das and Jiah Khan to name a few. To quote Bipasha who was voted sexiest woman of Asia for the year of 2005 and 2007 “In India, dark skinned girls are still subjected to taunts and pity. In the matrimonial columns, people still advertise for a fair bride. I’m dark skinned and very proud of that.” Asin and Deepika Padukone who are not naturally fair are these days endorsing Fairness Products. The super hot and successful models like Nyonika Chatterjee , Mughda Godse, Monikangana Dutta and Laxmi Menon are not fair either. Let us also not forget that many of these actresses have even won the beauty queen contests. Apart from Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra also has won the title of sexiest woman of Asia in 2006. However, there are a few actresses who have gone for fairness treatments like Rekha, Sridevi and Shilpa Shetty to name a few.

I think every color has its own individuality but the sensuality of the dusky skinned actresses mentioned above definitely is not there with the fair skinned ones. All of these actresses also have made a mark in the Indian Film World too. I also think the dark skinned women should not feel inferior and should learn from the confidence and positivity these women have and start being comfortable with their skin and stop running after fairness creams and treatments. Instead concentrate on having a healthy skin without pimples and blemishes. Be happy and confident with your natural skin because the real beauty is what is within and how you feel about yourself. There is a saying ‘If you feel that you are beautiful, you are’.
